HVAC Technology

The greatest expense of maintaining a home is the cost of heating and cooling. Electrical consumption in the summer months can cost a homeowner as much as $2 per square foot of living space.

To minimize the use of energy in the home, building codes have continually increased the required SEER for air conditioning systems. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It is a number calculated from the amount of conditioning (heating or cooling) that a unit can produce for a given amount of energy (electricity). The higher the SEER, the more energy efficient a unit is.

In 2006, Hensley Premier Builders adopted 14 SEER as our standard for air conditioning systems. The current building codes requires a 13 SEER to be compliant with Energy Star guidelines. Some manufacturers are now offering SEERs up to 28. The cost is prohibitive, but the good news is that affordable higher SEERs are just around the corner.

For those homeowners concerned about energy consumption in the home, our HVAC contractor will conduct a private consultation with the homeowner to discuss options for lowering energy consumption from heating and cooling.
